Halo Infinite is a year 2021 1st person shooter developed by 343 and published by Xbox Game Studios. Halo Infinite is the 6th entry in the Halo series, following Halo 5: Guardians (2015). The campaign follows the human leader Master Chief in his fight against an enemy banished from the planet Forerunner Zeta Halo, also known as entry 07. Unlike previous installments in the series, the multi-part of the game is free to play. The game was intended to be released as a launch title for the Xbox Series X/S, but was delayed until August year 2020 after the July year 2020 Infinite game was shown to negative feedback from critics and fans alike. Following an open beta of multiple resources on November 15, year 2021, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the franchise, the campaign was released for Xbox One, Windows and Xbox Series X/S on December 8, year 2021.
Halo Infinite received generally positive reviews from critics, with some considering the game to be a comeback for the series. Praise is directed at its presentation, gameplay, open world, soundtrack, and story. However, many aspects of the game have been criticized for its slow pace, lack of content, and technical issues, such as lag. Halo Infinite is a first-person shooter similar to previous Halo games. Players use weapons and vehicles common to the Halo series, such as the Warthog. The game adds new abilities for the player, Master Chief, such as the Grapple Shot, which fires at enemies or collects items.
The semi-open world media system allows players to explore parts of the Zeta Halo base of ringed worlds, which are separated from each other and previously impassable. Scattered around the perimeter, Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) can be captured once the enemy is eliminated. The detention center serves as a fast travel center.
