NBA 2K21 is a (National Basketball League) year 2021 basketball simulation video game developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports. NBA 2K21 game is based on the National Basketball Association (NBA) and is the 22nd installment in the NBA 2K franchise, the successor to NBA 2K20 and the predecessor to NBA 2K22. NBA 2K21 game was released on September 4, year 2020 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia, and on November 29, year 2020 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Many versions have been heavily criticized, citing lack of originality and gameplay as well as numerous microtransactions and bugs. NBA 2K21 Arcade Edition was released on Apple Arcade on April 2, year 2021.
A teaser for the game was released on June 11, year 2020 during the unveiling ceremony of the PS5 and Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans. It showed a few seconds of in-engine pre-alpha footage and showed several effects like ray tracing and shadow detail. On June 30, year 2020, NBA 2K announced Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers as the cover for the Standard Edition on previous generation consoles. On July 1, year 2020, NBA 2K announced Zion Williamson as the cover athlete for the flagship edition for the next consoles. The final cover was released on July 2, year 2020, to honor the late Kobe Bryant. The game demo was released on August 24, year 2020
MyCareer, an important part of the system, returns as one of the available game modes. MyCareer is a career mode where a player creates a basketball that they can customize and play with during their basketball career. Players can create a male or female player, although female game creation is only available on next-generation consoles. Neighbors also return to MyCareer, like 2K Beach, where players can customize their outfits, get haircuts and tattoos, and buy upgrades.
