Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a Metroid vania Platform and Adventure video game developed by Moon Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios. Announced at E3 Year 2017, the title is a sequel to Year 2015’s Ori and the Blind Forest, and will be released in March Year 2020 for Xbox One and Windows. The Nintendo Switch version was released in September Year 2020 by Iam8bit, and the ultimate version was released for the Xbox Series X/S as a launch title in November Year 2020. It game maintains a great story progression in the Dark Forest sequel journey of the main character from the series. Ori in a new area called Niwen. The game was developed by Moon Studios, a Vienna-based company with contributors from around the world. The game introduces new melee combat and its presentation has been changed, changing from the two blind portraits to the three types played in different styles from Will of the Wisps. Upon its release, Ori and the Will of the Wisps received critical acclaim, with critics citing the game as an example of artistic expression in video games. Credits for the game include the story, characters, visuals, combat, navigation, environment, chase system, and soundtrack. However, these criticisms are based on technical issues such as frame rate issues and visual bugs, which have largely been fixed with a single patch.
The game is a 2D Metroidvania; a platform maker that emphasizes exploration, promotion, collection and outreach in previously inaccessible areas. The player controls the titular Ori, a white guardian spirit. As Ori, players must jump, climb, slide and swim between different platforms to solve complex puzzles. The game comes out in the style of Metroidvania, with new abilities and upgrades that allow players to open previously inaccessible areas of the map. Some of the main gameplay elements are from the Rayman and Metroid franchises.
