Grand Theft Auto 5 is a year 2013 action game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the 7th entry in the GTA series, following 2008’s GTA 4. Set in the fictional state of GTA San Andreas in Southern California, the single-player story follows 3 main characters – retired bank robber Michael De Santa, street fighter Franklin Clinton, and the drug dealer and gunman Trevor Philips – and their attempted robbery while under pressure by corrupt government agencies and powerful criminals. The open world design allows players to explore the rural San Andreas and the fictional Los Angeles-based Los Santos.
The game is played in the perspective of the 3rd or the 1st person, the world is traveled on foot and by car. Players control the 3 main players during single-player situations and switch between them, both during and outside of the mission. The story is based on the heist series, and most of the missions involve shooting and driving games. The “wanted” system governs the aggressiveness of law enforcement’s response to players who commit crimes. Grand Theft Auto Online, an online multiplayer game, allows up to 30 players to participate in a variety of supported and competitive games.
Development of the game began after the release of GTA 5 and was divided between several Rockstar companies around the world. The development team took inspiration from many of their previous projects such as RDR (Red Dead Redemption) and Max Payne-3 and designed the game around 3 main characters to bring something new to the series of its predecessors. Much of the development work involved creating an open world, with many teams doing field research around California to capture footage for the design team. The game’s soundtrack features an original score composed by a team of producers who have collaborated over the years. It was released in September (year) 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in November (year) 2014 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, in April (year) 2015 on Windows and in March (year) 2022 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
