The Callisto Protocol is a year 2022 Action and Survival Horror video game developed by Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton. Directed by Dead Space series director Glen Schofield, it is considered to be the successor to the Ghost series. Callisto Protocol game’s story follows Jacob Lee (Josh Duhamel) who is sent to a correctional facility on the Jovian moon Callisto to fight inmates with an unknown disease while uncovering the facility’s secret secrets. The gameplay allows players to explore a series of levels, collecting resources while fighting against infected prisoners. The game was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on December 2, year 2022. It received mixed reviews. Callisto Protocol game did not meet Krafton’s sales expectations.
In The game, players take on the role of Jacob Lee from a third-person perspective. Jacob’s health is shown by a device attached to the back of his neck called a “C.O.R.E. Device”. Health can be filled with Injectable packages obtained from the post. Jacob can use weapons to attack enemies, as well as melee techniques to block enemy attacks while looking for openings to kill them. Both types of combat can be mixed, providing variety when dealing with different types of enemies. Jacob can collect and watch audio recordings during the game.
In year 2320, Jacob Lee (Josh Duhamel) and Max Barrow (Jeff Schine) are contract carriers working for the United Jupiter Company (UJC). The two decided to retire when they transferred the last load between Europa and the black prison operating the UJC on Callisto. Shortly after leaving the Black Iron on their ship, the Charon, they are picked up by the Outer Way, a group of terrorists accused of causing a major virus attack in Europe, the ship the body falls on Callisto. Max is killed, leaving Jacob and Outer Way leader Dani Nakamura (Karen Fukuhara) as the only survivors. Black Iron Prison’s chief security officer Captain Leon Ferris (Sam Witwer) singled out the two and sentenced them to the orders of Warden Duncan Cole (James C. Mathis III). After the admission process, Jacob wakes up to find the prison full of evil “biophages”; prisoners with unknown diseases. He meets Elias Porter (Zeke Alton), an inmate who says he has an escape plan. After freeing Elias, Jacob fights back and leaves Ferris to die at the hands of the Biophages.
