Mass Effect Legendary (MEL) Edition is a collection of the Mass Effect trilogy video games: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. It was developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. All 3 games have been redesigned, with visual improvements, technical improvements and gameplay tweaks. Mass Effect, the first game in the trilogy, received significant improvements over its counterparts, including in graphics, combat mechanics, vehicle controls and load times. Development on the Legendary Edition began in year 2019 under Mac Walters, who previously worked as a writer for Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. BioWare decided to approach the project as a remake rather than a remake save the original experience trilogy. The collection was announced on November 7, year 2020 and released on May 14, year 2021 for PlayStation 4, Windows and Xbox One. Legendary Edition received positive reviews from video game publications, who praised the improved experience of the original game in addition to the quality and scope of the entire package. A few criticisms were leveled at the game’s width and visual changes in some areas.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition contains the same game base content for all three Mass Effect Trilogy titles: Mass Effect (2007), Mass Effect 2 (2010) and Mass Effect 3 (2012). The collection also includes almost all of the previously released single-player downloadable content (DLC) for each game, such as support weapons, weapons and packs.
